In his despatch No. 24 of the 22nd Feb. (on W. sq) Lord Kimberley informed the Governor that there is no need to have a separate Interpretation department of the kind suggested and that the Registrar General's department is to retain its old position: The proposals therefore made in this despatch cannot be entertained.
It may be well however to some extent to analyse the objects S. J. Hennessy has had in view:
i, to raise the standard of interpretation in the colony;
